The Manitouwadge Community Centre, opened in 1964, houses many facilities within its walls and surrounding area. In the summer, programs such as the Drop-In for teens and youth, and the Playground Program for younger children are held here. Adjacent to the Centre, you will find the outdoor Manitouwadge Oasis Pool where fully qualified lifeguards/instructors offer swimming lessons and a variety of public swimming opportunities and special events throughout the summer months. Outside the Community Centre a baseball field complete with lighting may be rented for tournaments and is used for Adult Mixed Lobball. In addition to summer programming, the Community Centre houses a full service fitness facility available to all citizens, the Manitouwadge Public Library, the Contact North Office, and an auditorium for community and user groups and for private functions of various sorts.
During the winter months, the Community Centre boasts a variety of winter activities. The arena becomes an oasis for public skaters and hockey players of all ages. The Manitouwadge Minor Hockey Association continues to offer their services to the youth of Manitouwadge. The Manitouwadge Curling Club offers various leagues for curling participants and a licenced lounge overlooking the ice. The Northern Trails Ski Club runs their facility from the Centre, providing quick access to their Clubhouse Trails system for cross country skiing and snowshoeing.
During the winter months, various programs may be offered in the auditorium. Such programs as, badminton for youth and adults, Walk/Jog About and basketball have all been offered in the past.
Available within the Community Centre are various meeting rooms which may be rented by any community group or individual for meetings or other functions. For information or bookings please call the Municipal Office at (807) 826-3227 ext: 226.
The Community Centre is managed and maintained by a facility caretaker who will always be on duty if questions or concerns are to arise. They may be reached at (807) 826-3607.
Manitouwadge Public Library:
The library offers a variety of services including, Interlibrary Loans, Ancestrylibrary.com, as well as Knowledge Ontario. All of these sites are free of charge.
