About the Manitouwadge Fire Department
The Manitouwadge Fire Department operates from one Fire Hall, which is adjoined to the Municipal Office located in the middle of town at 1 Mississauga Drive. Staffing is provided by a full time Fire Chief and twenty-two Volunteer Fire Fighters.
Service is provided with two triple combination pumpers, with ratings of 1050 gpm. A rescue unit which carries a crew of eight is equipped with a 20 KVA onboard generator, a light tower, auto extrication equipment and water/ice rescue equipment. This unit doubles as a mobile command post with seating and table space for six people.
The Fire Department has fifteen self-contained breathing apparatuses (SCBA), with its own compressor and auto-extrication equipment. The dispatch office is set up with stand-by power to operate the lights, heat and communication equipment. Water for firefighting is provided throughout the community with one hundred fifty-three hydrants. The Fire Department provides Fire Code, Life Safety and Fire Prevention, and Public Education to the community. First Aid and CPR training is also provide.
Manitouwadge Fire Department is responsible for Fire Protection within the Township of Manitouwadge. The department also responds to vehicle incidents outside of the Municipality under agreement with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and requests for emergency service from Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR). This area includes Highway 614, Industrial Road, and Camp 70 areas.
