Finance/Treasury Department

The Finance/Treasury Department is responsible for the financial integrity of the municipality. The department is responsible for several financial activities such as preparation of operating and capital budgets for approval by Council, managing the Township’s property taxation, public utilities, accounts payable and accounts receivables systems, payroll and purchasing.

This section will explain who sets property taxes, where the information comes from upon which property taxes are based, who plays what role in the process leading from the creation of taxation policy to your tax bill, and many other tax questions.

An Asset Management Plan serves as a strategic, tactical and financial document, ensuring the management of the municipal infrastructure follows sound asset management practices and principles, while optimizing available resources and establishing desired levels of service.

A technically precise and financially rigorous asset management plan, as developed for the Township of Manitouwadge, will mean that sufficient investments are made to ensure delivery of sustainable infrastructure services to current and future residents.

The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is responsible for placing a value on all properties in Ontario. From the information supplied by MPAC & the Ontario Municipal Legislation, the Township of Manitouwadge calculates the tax amounts and issues the tax bills.

Property Tax Due Dates:

The first billing of your taxes will be mailed in January and is payable in two installments – on the last working day in February and the last working day in April 

The final billing for your yearly taxes will be mailed in July and is payable in two installments – on the last working day in August and the last working day in September.

*Please note, these dates are approximate and may change. The billing you receive will reflect the date(s) payments are due.

Public Utility (Water) Due Dates:
Public utilities are billed at the beginning of each quarter and are due on the last working day of the quarter.

Please note, if you have not received your property or utility bill, please contact the Township of Manitouwadge Office  at (807) 826-3227 ext: 225 or via e-mail at deputytreasurer@manitouwadge.ca

Property taxes, trailer lot rents and utility water bills can be paid via:

  • Telephone Banking or Online Banking (internet)
  • Banking Institutions (CIBC, SCOTIA, TD TRUST, etc.)
  • ATM machines
  • Cheques and/or money orders can be mailed to the Township (receipt will be mailed back to the customer only IF the customer requests it)
  • Outside drop-off box for after hours convenience (receipt will be mailed back to the customer only IF the customer requests it)
  • Post-dated cheques*
  • Credit card payments can continue to be made using our online payment system (registration at https://online.manitouwadge.ca/ is required) and payment can be made at: https://ipn.paymentus.com/rotp/tomc  (Note:  Paymentus applies a fee when using this method of payment.  The fee is is a percentage of the bill).

At the reception counter, the following is accepted:

  • Cash and Debit Cards
  • Cheques and money orders
  • Post-dated cheques*

* Restrictions apply and may require Treasury Department approval
* Receipt will be mailed back to the customer only IF the customer requests it and only on the process date
