The Township of Manitouwadge is located in the heart of the Boreal Forest with the Canadian Shield as our backdrop. Located in Northern Ontario, halfway between Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay, the community is a location for year-round outdoor adventure.


We are currently seeking a motivated and skilled candidate to fill the unionized full-time position of Ski Hill Apprentice and Golf Course Labourer in our Community Services Department.


The Manitouwadge Municipal Golf Course is a 9-hole course measuring 3193 yards for men’s play and 2475 yards for ladies. The course offers a picturesque setting and a combination of undulating and flat fairways with small, well positioned greens.


The Kiwissa Ski Hill has 10 challenging runs ranging from beginner to expert and offers a specular view of the Township.


Under the general guidance and direction of the Director of Community and Economic Development, the Ski Hill Apprentice and Golf Course Labourer operates and completes appropriate maintenance of both the Kiwissa Ski Hill and the Manitouwadge municipal golf course; maintains grounds; services and maintain equipment.


Job Function:

  • Safety conscience, service-oriented team player within the Community Services Department.
  • Required to ensure safe operation and of the ski machinery, property and lifts.
  • Perform general maintenance including daily detailed record keeping of ski runs, building and machinery.
  • Oversee shift operation and lift operators; perform janitorial duties.
  • Ensure safe operation of the golf course machinery, grounds and services; maintain equipment.
  • Other assigned duties.
  • Job functions require some adverse weather conditions as well as working at heights of up to 20 feet


  • Grade 12 or equivalent with 3 to 5 years of related experience;
  • Valid Class “G” Drivers License;
  • Valid Working at Heights Certification or willing to obtain;
  • Willing to obtain Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) Ski Lift Mechanic-in-Training Certification;
  • Willing to obtain Integrated Pest Management (IPM) training;
  • Vocational experience in mechanical, electrical and/or plumbing;
  • Experience operating motorized equipment an asset e.g., Tractor ATV/UTV/Snowmobile;
  • Experience operating small equipment an asset e.g., chainsaw, lawn equipment, manual hand and power tools;
  • Written skills to record daily operational activities;


Hours per week:   40

Hourly wage:      $26.81 as per the Collective Agreement
