Adaptive Phased Management (APM) is the name of Canada’s plan for the long-term management and safe storage of used nuclear fuel and the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) is responsible for implementing the plan.
Since 2012, Manitouwadge has been engaged in the “Learn More” process with the NWMO as part of their site selection for a deep geological repository for used nuclear fuel.
Currently Manitouwadge is at Step 3: Phase 2 in the process. To learn more about this step, please visit the NWMO website: Steps in the Process.
As part of the process, the Township of Manitouwadge has established the Manitouwadge Nuclear Waste Community Liaison Committee. The members are comprised of volunteers who are interested in helping the community learn more about Canada’s plan for where used nuclear fuel can be safely stored. The Committee meets on a monthly basis and encourages anyone who is interested to attend.
Please visit their website: Manitouwadge NWCLC
Additionally, the NWMO has a Learn More Office located in the downtown core. We encourage you to drop by for more information and to share your questions and concerns.
