Manitouwadge has everything that you would find in a much larger community but is packed into a small bundle. Take for example our modern hospital built in 1998. It was recently announced that Santé Manitouwadge Health has been selected as one of five sites in Ontario to integrate local health services under one structure serving the local residents. These changes will further align health services and programs to better serve residents of Manitouwadge. In addition, Manitouwadge hosts a full-service pharmacy, a dentist, and visiting chiropractors and veterinarians.

If indoor or outdoor recreation is what you’re looking for, then you are in for a real treat. Manitouwadge has plenty of year-round recreational activities for people of all ages.

In the summer there is a municipal 9-hole golf course with full clubhouse facilities, vast trail systems for hiking, mountain biking or off-roading, a recreation centre with an outdoor swimming pool and a great fitness centre.

Additionally, many residents take advantage of being surrounded by pristine lakes and rivers that offer excellent fishing, canoeing and kayaking.

In the winter Manitouwadge offers separate curling and ice rink facilities, the Kiwissa Ski Hill and Chalet with 3,480 metres of groomed trails over 9 runs and a vertical drop of 94 meters, and miles of cross country ski trails.

Manitouwadge has abundant amounts of snow in which you can snowmobile across a virgin winterscape, or take a snowmobile expedition deep into the frozen Canadian Shield and back.  Venture inside or just outside of town and take advantage of some of the best ice fishing anywhere.

Our Community Services Department provides many programs throughout the year. Some of these activities include: belly dancing, yoga, tai chi, adult badminton, minor soccer, youth drop-in, just to name a few. From Grade School to Graduation

Three school boards serve the township of Manitouwadge. With three primary schools – Ecole Publique Franco-Manitou, Manitouwadge Public School, and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, plus a modern, well-equipped high school built in 1998 – you will be sure to find the same level of education and opportunities that you would find in any city.

The small class sizes foster an environment that promotes growth and development, ensuring that your children will receive excellent educational advantages.

Post-secondary and adult education opportunities are offered through Centre de Formation Manitouwadge Learning Centre, Contact North, and remotely through colleges and universities in Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie and throughout Ontario.

Healthcare

Santé Manitouwadge Health is an award winning integrated health care organization that is unique in Ontario.  It offers 9 inpatient acute care beds, 9 inpatient long-term care beds, one community hospice bed and a 24-hour emergency department. SMH also provides the following services: respite care, meals on wheels, palliative care, rehabilitation services (physiotherapy and cardiac rehab), diagnostic services (laboratory, X-Ray and Ultrasound), home nursing services, specialist clinics enabled by video-conference, primary care and chronic disease management through the family health team and a physician practice, diabetes program, meals on wheels, client transportation, seniors programs and public health unit promotion. Within this structure are many unique programs designed to meet the needs of our residents.  Santé Manitouwadge Health represents a one-stop shop for health services in the community.

In addition, Manitouwadge hosts a full-service pharmacy, a dentist, and visiting chiropractors and veterinarians.

We know that there are inconveniences such as blackflies in the summer and extreme cold in the winter, but we choose to revel in these circumstances and even brag about them. Manitouwadge is truly a hidden gem of the north – you will have to see it for yourself!
