The Township of Manitouwadge is located in the heart of the Boreal forest with the Canadian Shield as our backdrop. Located in Northern Ontario, halfway between Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay, the community is a location for year-round outdoor adventure. Our full-service community is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to assist the Community Services Department in achieving the Township’s vision to be a trusting, secure, affordable, healthy and spirited community of opportunity. As such, the Township is keen to recruit an experienced and community-minded Community Programmer to help achieve this vision.

 

 We are currently seeking a motivated and skilled candidate to fill the position of permanent full time Community Programmer in our Community Services Department.

 

Under the general guidance and direction of the Director of Community and Economic Development, the Community Programmer is responsible for the following:

  • Create, develop and implement various recreation programs, services and/or special events that meet the needs and interests of the residents of Manitouwadge.
  • Assess and evaluate recreation programs;
  • Work closely with various department staff to maintain and operate recreational and cultural facilities to provide a setting for these activities;
  • Network, liaise, and partner with various stakeholders to coordinate, facilitate and collaborate in the delivery of recreation programs, services and special events;
  • Manage the provision of space to external community providers and groups;
  • Hire and oversee seasonal student positions.

Overall, this position plays an integral role in enabling the Town to provide a comprehensive and enjoyable variety of recreation programs, services and special events for its residents.

 

In this dynamic role, the Community Programmer will:

  • Coordinate and maintain event bookings at our recreation facilities to ensure the best possible customer experience;
  • Manage all customer requests for facility bookings;
  • Liaise with various suppliers, vendors, and stakeholders; and
  • Maintain professional relationships with local organizations in order to generate future event and sport tourism opportunities;
  • Prepare contract agreements and ensuring user compliance; and
  • Assist with budget preparation and administrative tasks related to facility rentals.

 

Qualifications:

  • Community College Diploma in a related field;
  • 1 to 2 years of related experience;
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software applications is required;
  • Smart Serve Certification (or willingness to obtain);
  • Previous supervisory experience is an asset;
  • Event management certification an asset;
  • Valid Ontario G licence.

 

Working hours are flexible based on seasonal and event needs, averaging 35 hours per week.
