  How Kiwissa Got Its Name:

“In the fall of 1956, at one of their first meetings, with 12 members in attendance, they came to a deadlock as to what should be the name chosen for the ski hill.   There were 6 votes for “Manitouwadge Ski Club” and 6 votes for “Kiwissa Ski Club.”   The latter name honouring a local Ojibway trapping family was chosen.   They didn’t record how the tie was broken, but “Kiwissa Ski Club” was accepted unanimously as the new name.”
